SMALL YACHT WANTED, CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE?
I live part of the year in Wales and part of the year (summer) in Greece, in the Peloponnese. Over the last 30 years I have owned a variety of small sailing cruisers – Caprice, Leisure 17 and 22, and Hurley 22 etc. I have now acquired an excellent marina style mooring in Greece (Pylos) and want to purchase a small sailing cruiser for day sailing and coastal cruising. However to date I have had virtually no success in scouring the Web for brokers and boatyards in Greece who sell small sailing cruisers. All of the Web sites I have found servicing the Greek market sell large and expensive yachts often with brokerage lists which start from a minimum of 20,000 – 30,000 euros upwards to several millions. My budget extends to approx £7500!! In the UK this would cover the purchase of a wide number of good small sailing cruisers between 19 – 24 feet. I am particularly interested in the following classes Hunter, Achilles, Pandora, Hurley, Prelude and Leisure – but I do not have a closed mind on this. I would definitely prefer a boat with an outboard engine to an inboard, and I am not interested in any form of unfinished project boat or a neglected boat requiring lots of work. I have been down this route before and now want a boat which is ready to be slipped. Does anyone have any ideas on how to source a boat of the type indicated – other than driving around Greece visiting local boatyards and marinas. I regularly drive to Greece via Minoan ferries from Venice – Patras but towing a small sailing cruiser over this sort of distance does not appeal – though I will hold this in mind as a last resort. If someone is interested in delivering their boat on their trailer to Venice I would be happy to reciprocate by offering two weeks free bed and breakfast in our villa in Greece, with its own swimming pool. If anyone has any ideas, or friends/contacts in Greece, possibly sailing similar boats, who could help in any way, I really would be most grateful.
